What do bodybuilders & writers have in common?

Over the course of my life, I’ve scowled through many articles, books, blog posts, and social media accounts searching for answers. I was endlessly curious about the way people arrived at their success on their journey as writers, professional dancers, athletes, public speakers, even culinary artists — you name it.

And all this curious digging had consistently left me with an overarching lesson: if you want to become something, simply affirm that you are [enter whatever that is here], and live the life that resembles it. In other words, if you want to be a writer, just start writing. If you want to be a successful executive, roll up your sleeves and take on projects that allow you to exercise your leadership skills. If you want to be a chef, start playing with ingredients in the kitchen. You don’t have to be good, in fact, very few are when they start, but they’ve taken the first step and this puts them ahead of everyone else that has yet to try.

I always dreamed of becoming a writer but was discouraged by the uncertainty of the path to arrive there. Until one day I read something inspiring that said all you have to do is start. Simple, right?

And then I got to thinking — my desire to flourish as a writer requires the exact discipline I apply to my wellness journey. To elaborate, the growth is found in the exercise of the muscle. As I exercise muscles in my body for my physical well-being, I exercise my writing muscle, my meditation muscle, and my public speaking muscle. And with enough repetitions, I become stronger. Synonymous to the tearing and rebuilding of muscles during a workout, I can build my foundation and I step into my power as a writer who is confident in her ideas and her voice.

Though sharing on this public forum is scary and exciting, this is where I write, when inspired, in hopes to continuously contribute to my muscular hypertrophy (fitness geeks will appreciate this).
